Three people hit by cars at Occupy DC tonight - at least 2 seriously enough to be taken to hospital (at least 1 on a stretcher - that's Georgia)
It happened at two different intersections - from all accounts on the scene it was said that it was same guy in a Lexus (i.e. 3 different people at 2 different intersections = intentional)
Occupiers chased guy down when he tried to run, police detained (with about 8-10 cop cars surrounding him), and then literally let him drive away down the street
Everyone goes ballistic at the cops for letting him go.
In the craziness that ensued, 1-2 protesters were arrested and put in the back of cop cars
I am Jack's complete state of shock.
How a 2x intentional hit-&-runner gets to go away free while 2 protesters are arrested is seriously beyond me... it's a whole new level of political twilight zone.
It's sickening. It's shameful. This is truly shocking to witness.
Tina Dupuy, a reporter from Crooks & Liars, got really good video of A.) the story of the hit-&-run by an eye witness, B) footage of guy in Lexus driving away from cops, & C) ensuing aftermath with MPD including arrests of protesters. Looping her into this convo here
What the hell is going on here?
Alright, goin to sleep now.

We'll be working on getting eye witness accounts and details on the victims in the morning. There is information that one of the victims, Georgia, who has been a regular at McPherson Sq, has serious but non-life threatening injuries and is currently at GW hospital. I'll send details as I have them. Conflicting reports on whether the perpetrator is in custody, but there is video showing that at least initially he was not arrested by the police.
When talking about the incident it is important to reinforce that this was a #occupykochbrothers action. The driving reason for this event is getting obscured by many media accounts. We'll be collecting more information about the incident and status on the victims while also documenting eye witness testimony and send it out as soon as we have it tomorrow (ie later today).
