|Subject:||[GlobalRevolutionMedia] Hard disk space|
As many of you may know, the recent flooding in Thailand has caused a nearly 300% increase in the price of hard drives. All hard drives are made in Thailand, and the facilities are flooded.
Anyone who is going to need to buy a new hard drive in the next year should do so ASAP since prices are still rising.
For OWS material, I'm considering transcoding my Canon footage to ProRes Proxy at 720p. Normally I shudder at the thought of this, but it's an effective way to save drive space. Seriously, a 3TB G-drive costs $280 these days. A 2TB bare SATA drive runs for $200 on Newegg, this used to be under $100.
Please share tips on saving drive space if you've got any. I work by day as a post-production media manager/workflow trch and am thinking of doing a media management seminar, if anyone is interested.
