My sense is it's an asap kinda deal. Crowd of nebbishy writers (I mean like me) hauling stacks of books will give many people who want to get involved but are scared some courage.

I also think it's a beautiful idea. I know that a colleague at the New School was coordinating book and library donation there, to go with N17 -- Rachelle Rahme, whom I'm cc:ing here. Hi Rachelle!
I think, if we want it to matter as much as we should, we might think of a particular time tomorrow to restock the library if Zuccotti Square is being fully reoccupied. (Details still changing now.) That way it would offer press (!) a chance to write it up as an event -- and pick up on the continuing resonance of destroying so many precious books yesterday, so hatefully.
I think it is a beautiful idea. And not just writers, everyone should be encouraged to come with a book.

Just an idea: Should writers re-occupy by going en masse with our books, our magazines, our zines, etc., to rebuild the OWS library?
Time's short and I'm headed down to Zuccotti, so I've cc'd this to the September 17 OWS listserv, Occupy Writers, which which I'm affiliated, the writers group, and the OWS library. I'm BCC'ing to a small group of OccupyWriters signatories that I could quickly find in my email.
If folks on the ground have other ideas, or think this is a bad idea, let me know.
