COMMUNITY, LABOR, ELECTED OFFICIALS STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH OWS AGAINST “MAYOR 1%”’s BRUTAL AND ILLEGAL SUPPRESSION OF FREE SPEECH
2:00 PM SOLIDARITY NEWS CONFERENCE PLANNED;
MAJOR NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION ON THURSDAY
NEW YORK, NY – Leading New Yorkers, including elected officials, community leaders and labor leaders will hold a solidarity rally and press conference today, standing firmly against Mayor Bloomberg’s decision to brutally and unjustly evict Occupy Wall Street protestors from Zuccotti Park.
The Mayor used the cover of darkness and media suppression to try to keep the raid on Zuccotti away from the eyes of the public, but as with many uprisings this year, he is finding that you while he can use brute force to evict people, he can’t evict an idea whose time has come from the minds of an increasingly angry and frustrated 99%. The national movement for jobs and economic justice that has grown since the original occupation nearly two months ago will continue to gain strength and support, with Thursday’s National Day of Action being the next outpouring of public support and activism for the 99%.
Today’s press conference will reiterate the broad support for OWS, invite the 99% to fight back by taking part in Thursday’s actions, and call on the Mayor to stop standing up only for his brethren in the 1% and respect freedom of assembly.
WHAT: News Conference
WHO: Members of the 99%, community and labor groups, elected officials
WHEN: 2:00PM – Tuesday, November 15th
WHERE: 60 center street, foley square, steps of NYS courthouse.
