Hey there from Occupy Together,

Sorry we haven't been able to read through this whole thread. I wanted to mention, we're working really hard at trying to find resources for you to communicate between one another. Austin web team, get in touch with us. There are a couple of thing emerging that are going to be great resources. Take The Square has traditionally used an open-source social media platform to tackle this task of communication between groups. We're in works with them and one other to see if this will be a helpful tool. Actually, someone already started something at iOccupy.net with this in mind and we may collaborate with them.

Secondly, we currently have two listervs, one for "networking" or a general, all purpose thread and one of "media" which people will post media requests to. Currently the are occupytogether@googlegroups.com and occupymedia@googlegroups.com. All you have to join is email send an email to the email address with the email account you'll want to receive mail with. I say currently, because they are listervs that may eventually need to be moved to a more secure location.

Also, there's someone working on a TeamSpeak application explained here: www.occupyglobal.net this is an app that can even be used on your phone where we can join global, regional or local voice-chats. We were waiting to announce it because we were trying to consolidate efforts with Take the Square, but you are more than welcome to set it up today and there is someone who is almost always keeping an eye on it who will help you learn how to use it.

Lastly, there is a new #occupytogether IRC room at chat.indymedia.org we'd love to see more traffic in there especially through tomorrow. Okay, I hope we've addressed some of this email thread :) Please check out these resources and give us some feedback if you think they will be helpful or if you know of others out there.

I agree in the short term, this is a ground up movement. My point is that our long term goal has to be a fundamental change in how democracy functions. Otherwise, the system will continue to facilitate the flow of all power and wealth to the 1%. But yes, it starts at the personal, local, and state level.

Moving into electoral politics at this point will kill the movement. If we want to shift power, we need to start meeting in our local communities to build alternative economies and systems that are outside the corporate system. If we work within the current system, we work from a position of weakness and will fail. We've been there and done that.
