I appreciate the feedback -- thank you all! Some points I hope you'd
1) Anyone dividing the movement between those who sleep at the park
permanently and those who are simply *supporters* I ask you to
consider the divisive effects of this kind of talk. The people you
cast as supporters only are making some of the most significant
contributions to the movement and will continue to do so. The fact is:
we need everything we can get -- our problems are systemic and
worldwide and the solutions don't just rest in those most able and
dedicated to hold the fort in the park.
2) This is a longterm project. When I sent it out last night there
were around 50 photos up -- that represents only half of what I
produced in *one day*, and I intend to get down there shooting as
often as possible. I will be there later today -- if you'd like to be
photographed in this style, I'm a a thin white guy with a beard and
glasses (I know, I know... not really narrowing it down much :D )
I'll be there around 2:00-5:00
3) I'm wary of the overuse of spectacle as a tool for promoting the
movement. I'm frustrated that the MSM (even the progressive-leaning
Daily Show) choose to focus on people with dredds, face tatts, "crazy"
or overtly sexualized clothing, etc. My work aims to be an antidote to
this. In fact, it literally sprang to mind after I spoke with an
otherwise very intelligent co-worker asking if he'd been to the park.
His answer: "Blah, it's bullshit. It's the exact same people that were
at the IMF protests -- just a bunch of disheveled kids in dredds and
face masks." This isn't Rush Limbaugh talking -- this is a guy whose
skills we could use and we need him and many more like him. To have
him toss it off so carelessly... well, let's just say my photos are
the productive way I channeled my very unproductive feelings.
4) Lastly... if you don't recognize any faces in here as committed
participants I ask you look again... they're in there and I'm not
going to call attention to them. More will show up today.

I second that. These are awesome photographs, but I don't recognize these
people as on the ground working in working groups or sleeping at liberty.

I've started a little photo project that aims to be a visual rebuttal to

This is about a third of what I put together the other day, more to come:
