Hello all -

After a few all-nighters with the nycga.net team, I have an upadate on
our progress:
The new version of NYCGA.net is up - the site is run on wordpress
multisite. Our current deployment is LAMP on a Rackspace cloud
server. It's stable for our current needs, but won't scale
indefinitely. (We also have a smaller staging server up, also on
Rackspace).

We had some good conversations with some specialists in
high-availability server administration 2 nights ago and came up with
an architecture for this site, which we would like to start
implementing next week. No preference on hosting provider - Rackspace
has some beneficial features - being able to create, resize or clone
servers and have them come online within minutes, and having static
internal IP addresses available so servers can communicate quickly and
securely across a local network connection in their datacenter.

The architecture for the site will probably involve 4 to 6 virtual
servers - a master DB server, slave DB server, media server (we could
aslo replace this with a CDN service) and multiple web servers running
nginx and php (consensus among server amins is that nginx is going to
handle high traffic better than apache).

Another thing that nycga.net needs help getting sorted out is a
reliable outgoing smtp server, for email alerts, signup + lost
password emails, etc. nycga.net is already sending several thousand
emails per day and a sizable percentage of them are bouncing either as
spam.

I'll be at home and available for a phone conference until around 3:30
today - after that I'm going to head in to the city until the early
evening.

I would very much like to attend but at home in New Jersey tonight. I would

I will be in irc.freenode.net #nycga-iwg to answer any questions until
around midnight eastern regardless of if a call in is possible.
Thanks all.
