Please visit http://internet.nycga.net/volunteer/solution-proposal-advice/ and read some cool notes about how best to offer new things. We want you involved; we are also inundated with ideas from folks.
We do need help with our online efforts. Consider statements like…. To help X do Y we should improve Z. We need your help for ‘Z.’ But you need to figure out who ‘X’ is and discover what their ‘Y’ is.

Jonathan, in my view and the views of many others in the tech groups surrounding OWS, proprietary solutions aren't consistent with the values of the occupy movement. We try to use free/libre/opensource alternatives (ie. drupal commons, Jomsocial) whenever possible. There's also a debate about whether of not OWS wants to organize around a central social network or - instead - focus on interoperability between the platforms that occupations are currently using such as BuddyPress and RSS feeds.
We're trying to make transparent the projects we're working on and tracking here: wiki.occupyeverywhere.org
That's just my opinion. I welcome your participation.
