Hi Eric & others.
This is Michael from the Movement Building WG in NYC. In our WG, we are currently in a process of determining how best to handle requests such as this one. We will likely be bringing a proposal to the spokes-council in the next couple of days. In the meantime, we recognize how important it is for requests such as this one to be handled quickly and not be bogged down due to process. I have CCed some appropriate WGs in NYC so that others are aware of Edmonton's struggle.
Some suggestions for Edmonton:
1. Discuss the possibility of getting a public donation link on OccupyWallSt.org by contacting email@example.com
(CCed on this email).
2. Come up with a list of specific needs in terms of goods donations, and we may be able to assist in those needs becoming more widely known about.
3. Determine a specific request for education/training that you'd like to make of people here in NYC and we can see about putting something together to assist.
4. If temperatures become life-threateningly low, consider convening indoors while figuring out the best course of action moving forward.
We are here to aid and support, and will do what we can to help Edmonton become stronger and more stable as a GA and occupation.

A sister up there writes:
I'm here in cold cold Edmonton our province's capital city. I have to get strait to the point. Today I am sending out a cry for help. We here in Edmonton are very small, we have only about 10 full time campers. There are a lot of other people involved as supporters. We have general assembly's everyday, and I have counted 110 people at one of them. We have the potential to really start something big here, our city has over a million people in it. We just don't know what we're doing. People are leaving, and not being replaced by new ones. Volunteers are burning out at a fast rate. People are dividing. GA's follow no set protocol and the hand signals are not used very well. I don't know what to do. I don't know any of the protocols. I'm very lost in a cause that I believe in so much!
I was afraid to even send an email to OWS because I feel like I would be outcasted or ridiculed by Occupy Edmonton for crying out for help. But it is so true and I have to say "WE NEED HELP FROM OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS!" I have copies of the Declaration of the Occupation of New York City that I tape to the mailboxes in my neighborhood. At the bottom of the second page you say "To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal".
We have assembled. We have the spirit. We support OWS. I know we can see this through, I feel like if Occupy Edmonton dies then I will die too. Since the Occupy Movement started I have hope in my life. I have fire in my heart again. I feel like this fucked up world CAN change! For the first time in my life I see a way out. I can visualize all of the starving children eating as much food as they want, and drinking as much water as they need. The Occupy Movement has made me a better Mom to my 3 children, I have a fire inside me again! I have energy I never knew I possessed. I need less sleep, I'm a better wife, I have passion for life again!
On Tuesday we are having a GA to decide if we are going to disperse or stay together. We will be trying to reach consensus on our next move.
We need your strength. Please help us.
I propose we go to the GA (or the Spokes Council) with a Proposal:
The members of movement building are moved that in Edmonton Alberta, a small group of hearty occupiers want to make it though a cold winter in a place that sees temperatures as low as -47 F. We propose to salute them here, on video, send them our love and respect, show them we are inspired by their actions. We move also to send them $4,000 worth of cold weather camping gear of their choosing. Would everyone please turn to the live stream and express your love and admiration to these hearty souls. "We love you, Occupy Edmonton!" while we wave our fingers in the air.
Can we get a tempature check on send them $4,000 worth of cold weather camping gear of their choosing?
What do you folks think? Please call me at 312-890-2547.
