Anarchy is everything we stand for, co-opted definitions aside. Anarchy is non violent. It is non oppression, dominance, or hierarchy of any one to another. Time to do some educating. Consensus is nonviolence, good to be working on a training vid right now!

I love Erica's ideas!! De-escalation cannot handle every aspect of this, and can't prevent acts. But to incite or even wish for violence in the name of the movement is opportunism that makes the hard work of all of us lose weight and credibility. many supporters of OWS have said that if there is violence within the camps or demonstrations, they cannot support the group any longer. There must be consequences and actions THE GROUP can take together to stop such acts, and to hold those who do them accountable to the group as well as law enforcement if merited.

There are people waiting, I sense, to pull more theatrical, attention grabbing stunts like breaking windows, etc, that they will perpetrate, but not face the consequences for legally. I hope that all involved in OWS know that violence will lessen any good to come from the movement- we cant give people justification to cause serious injury to the rest of the protesters at any time. The words "anarchy" and "anarchist" are thrown around like plaything in a college game, and the repercussions of anarchist actions don't seem to be fully understood. The last thing people who support us will tolerate is violence, destruction. London Riot opportunism.

Hello, my name is Erica Svendsen.  I am with the nonviolence working group at Occupy Ukiah in California.  It is my hope that in an effort to address growing concerns by all occupations as to what we should do when participants become violent, as well as to address the need for a widely accepted nonviolence code and to foster discussions on nonviolence, that all occupations will form a nonviolence working group.  I feel there are serious issues cropping up that need to be addressed by all groups from a nonviolence perspective.  This is a nonviolent movement and it only makes sense that all groups should have a nonviolence WG.  Thank you for your consideration.  In loving solidarity, Erica R.
