I applaud you all for creating structure. We found in organizing the occupation of Freedom Plaza that we were most effective and efficient when we worked in specific groups with specific tasks.

We in DC would like to create a national strategy group. We have put a lot of thought and study into how nonviolent movements can shift power. We used materials similar to what the Serbians and Egyptians used. We would like to facilitate discussion of the overall strategy of the movement and appropriate tactics.

Please let us know how we can become an official group and invite others who are interested to join that working group. We are not making decisions about strategy for the nation. We want to facilitate the work and discussion so that we can bring thoughtful proposals to the national movement.

We are also supportive of a national conference in Philly. Please let us know how we can assist with that.

In peace and solidarity,

In Philly, Philly Occupy_Together Working Group is putting together plans to host conferences on the implications of expanding from local to representative assemblies--first, of local Occupations within 100 miles of Philly (there are many smaller cities and towns with Occupations that get little attention away from their own locations), and later--tentatively thinking of 2nd or 3rd week in February, a North East Corridor conference, Boston to DC. We hope to be able to use the historic Quaker meeting house on Race Street, which holds up to 700 people. We believe Philly's central location and historical symbolic resonance makes this an ideal place for such a gathering.

We are now reaching out to Occupations to find individuals and WG's who would like to participate in planning this kind of F2F conference. Philly Occupy_Together sees our role as logistical--serving as managers dealing with coordinating travel info, facilitating overnight accommodations, meeting places and communication. We hope that others will step up to define our agenda, find people to lead learning groups and serve as resources for particular issues we might wish to discuss. Besides concerns involving expansion, there are many problems & concerns shared by almost all the Occupations: dealing with local authorities, involvement with homeless and indigent occupiers, food and comfort & surviving the winter... I believe we have much to share and can only grow stronger by coming together and pooling our knowledge and questions--& getting to know one another off the internet.

Please pass this on. If you would like to pitch in & work to make these conferences happen, send me contact info and I'll put you on our Listserve (& webpage should be get one).

Hi Folks,

I apologize for chiming in late here.  I am way behind on my e-mail.  I share Charles' concerns about national working group feeling top down and I am actually equally concerned about many of the "national" working groups on this list.  ...
