"Herd!" sounds cool. Unfortunately, we have dropped all iOS. We are
100% Android now.

I'm going to play with Vibe.

Great ideas, guys. Thanks.

if you want to see where a group of people are in real time, "Herd!" does a
very good job of that (ios now and android promised).  i've used it and it's
very well done:

aside from the question whether ows people want to be tracked even by
colleagues, reliable gps tracking tends to be a battery drain on devices.
in the case of a march or direct action i would highly recommend using
Herd!.
there's also the class of check-in apps like unsocial, sonar, and foursquare
which i've seen tried at conferences to network like minded people there.
they are useful to find people, but little else.
for within the park, i think local discussion via a mobile tool ala vibe
(which is analogous to email list discussion such as this list) is generally
more interesting than knowing who's in the park which is also interesting.

Thanks.

Vibe looks cool.... and very useful.    I just read some of the Press
about it just now...

I will check out Vibe today.

I was thinking of a super super easy to use app that's Not anonymous
though...  so that I could see if Keri or Drew or Joe or Ed or Thomas
or Jesse are in the park....  at the same time I am.    See what I
mean?    Different use case.

Bruce

No, I haven't.  I haven't even heard of it.  Is it an Android app?

Sounds great.

I like the super simple interface of grindr.  Face pics, sorted by
proximity.  It's very intuitive.  Then text chat which works much like
sms.

I think an app like this could be a very important tool for OWS.

hi Bruce -
I am working on a droid app that accomplishes much of what you outlined
that will in beta in about 3 weeks. It will be similar to apple's "find
my
friends" but it will emphasize privacy and temporariness. Networks are
invite-based so the app is not a forum for meeting people, rather will
be
for keeping connected to different groups of of people using gps (ie.
"my
friends, my working group, today's march, etc.). If you have some
particular
scenarios you envision using a mobile app for please send them my way
and
I'll let you know what would be supported.
