For the benefit of others, I present the text of the 1st amendment.

 

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,

or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of

speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to

assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

 

Where does it say in there that a permit is required? Where does it

say that I must ask the government's permission politely to disagree

with it? Nowhere, and through civil disobedience we can put these

"laws" where they belong, a sad note in the history books.

 

We have a just right to assembly and speech. If the city wants to

stand in the way of this, let them. The Constitution trumps city law,

not the other way around.
