Subject:   [september17discuss] Finances - FUCKING IMPORTANT

Now that I hope I have your attention: the subject of finances.

I've been getting a number of complaints from contacts that finances

lacked transparency (in fact our finances have no transparency

whatsoever according to one of said contacts).

As we went through the various donation accounts, finances, etc, our

own finances as organizing the website and various aspects of

communications, we came to the realization that it was, by and large,

true. There is no transparency in accounts. Which limits

accountability. Essentially we're defeating our own purpose, and I

think in that regard even the soft capitalists in here will probably

agree.

We now have a number of accounts siphoning off each other - the

newspaper, the media team, the live feed, the ga itself. And yes, I'm

plainly aware that these are autonomous entities to some degree, but

we're essentially walking over each other. We've also noted that every

account is overbudget (6 times for the newspaper, which is rather

absurd).

This is not particularly good for confidence.

Also, with much of the website's networking costs coming out of pocket

(including the assembly's phone lines), we're trying to raise a rather

nominal amount. We've taken the donation button off the main site for

now, but will be open to putting it back when we actually really need

the money.

That's about it for now.
