Micah, i can not thank you enough for posting this and reminding us
this is a public forum. I am so empowered reading the responses, i
celebrate the fearlessness and transparency here, thank you! Big props
to this movement for overcoming so much of what has destroyed
movements in the past--
Only the most cynical, the stupidest, the cowardly, most empty of
imagination, slander others as "infiltrators' and these are the same
cowards who go ratting off to the police--we know this from
cointelpro--the same people who sow conspiracy theories, fear,
paranoia, are the same people who censor and slander others--but we
should celebrate our ability to transcend all this --there are too
many of us, fearless, trusting and willing to exchange ideas, to be
corrected, to evolve, transform. It is a good lesson in humility--that
to me is empowerment!! long live the revolution against ignorance and
fear! Long live freedom of speech!
Lets worry less about the police===and be more concerned with our own
Code of Conduct--and please come Sunday 5pm to safe space meeting to
address the issue of racism/sexism/redbaiting within the
movement---how do we eradicate these prejudices? How do we hold
accountable members of OWS who attempt to slander others without
proof, sow paranoia and censor others? This is usually the most
insidious form of discrimination that goes unsaid--ie.. calling people
of color or women crazy--or calling someone an "infiltrator" it is the
oldest most racist script in the book---does anyone have any thoughts
on this? please.... what do we do about individuals who purposely
discriminate others with ZERO evidence? For this is what we should be
most concerned about---making sure we are not policing others in the
movement, censoring others, that we create a free space for open
dialogue and exchange without fear, paranoia and suspicion. YES, we
live in a police state and people of color know that better than
anyone, immigrants especially, that is why it is essential to
affirmatively create safety, diversity and plurality--nothing else can
destroy fear better than a direct democratic process and freedom of
speech--the freedom to disagree with each other without FEAR.
