UPDATED INFORMATION as of 10/14/2011

We, the Islamic Leadership Council of Metropolitan New York and Muslim New Yorkers stand in solidarity with the protesters of Occupy Wall Street on grounds of free speech, right to assemble and justice for all. Indeed, we are part of the 99%.

As such, we appreciate the invitation from the organizers for Friday prayer to be held at Zuccotti Park (Liberty Square) and look forward to our continued participation in Occupy Wall Street. Due to logistical uncertainties related to clean-up, Muslim congregational prayer has been postponed to next Friday, October 21st, 2011 at 1pm pending verification. The sermon delivered by Imam Aiyub Abdul Baki will focus on social justice in Islam. On October 14th and 21st, the Council will distribute free meals to the hungry, homeless and the protesters.

We urge mosques and Muslim institutions to encourage their members to join us next week and asks those in attendance to wear white in solidarity.
