Unfortunately, this is a prime example of "media spin." This is no way the decision of the OWS GA, as far as I have ascertained: http://bluemassgroup.com/2011/10/occupy-wall-street-calls-for-a-national-convention-on-july-4-2012/
In following the livestream and MSM very closely since September 17, it is very clear that people want a fresh start, and not to be co-opted by anyone - from Michael Moore to the Tea Party. The core group (moderators, tech team, heroic people on the ground) are fighting for a new way of life. If someone just arbitrarily grabs the words "OWS" or "99" and applies it to their pre-existing ideas (in this case, a Convention in Philadelphia) is this right? What if it had been the Democratic Party or some hate-group?
It's not surprising that this group was "excised" from the October 19 General Assembly agenda. Yet, they persisted after that experience to continue with their agenda.
In the long-run, perhaps the Convention will occur, and this will all be water under the bridge. On the other hand, maybe this item will have served to separate and isolate OWS. In any event, I am concerned!
In cases like this, I believe that we need to use principles of Restorative Justice. People who feel wronged should have a voice. Isn't that what this whole movement is about, after all?
