For nearly four decades I've been trying figure out Larouche and his appeal to his disciples. His mix of truth, conspiracy, bizarre claims -- he used to say the Queen of England runs the world, he's pro-nuclear anti-Green yet socialist sometimes, homophobic -- it's a jumble that makes bits of sense but doesn't hold together, and maybe that's what appeals. If you can't completely understand it, you conclude he must be too deep for you -- you become a disciple hoping to gain that deep insight. And he has a position on everything from politics to art. Conviction on all topics can be persuasive, especially for people who don't know much. He appeals to a lot of college students who are looking for answers, looking for certainty.

So far as I can tell, he's like an armageddon cult leader, but willing to take his opportunities wherever he can find them, whether among white supremicists or anti-Wall Street occupiers. But underneath, he's just another conspiracy theorist.

Sadly no, Larouche is real and for real. Was also apparently involved
in the NOI-KKK "alliances" in the 90s.
