Subject:   [GlobalRevolutionMedia] communicating with other occupies...

hi everyone,

for the iphone/ipad users among us, there's an efficient way to communicate with people at other occupies.  it works by sending messages to the location of the occupy and the people there.  it's potentially more powerful than email, sms, facebook, and twitter because messages go to the people physically there and any of them can reply without being on a mailing list, contact list, follower, etc.

it's a combination of two free apps: asklocal (the communication tool) and a helper app called "universities" that points asklocal to the various occupies (boston, dc, frankfurt, london, oakland, san francisco, etc.).

to use it, download the "universities" app from the app store and tap on any occupy name to jump to its location on the map.  when at the map, tap on the [+] button to post a message to that occupy and select how far you want it visible (can be as small as 32 feet from where you sent the message).

this is a powerful and disruptive tool that we can use for both inter and intra occupy communication.  examples of the latter would be discussing drug usage issues just within zuccotti or 60 wall, commenting about the GA in real time, announcing work group meetings, etc.

it's unfortunate that it's ios only, but we can still get lots accomplished using it (android users can reply to messages via vibe but not send them to other occupies).  if people agree, we can tell other occupies about it.
