michael i understand what you are saying, but it differs from what the people on  the thread 'strike?' are saying- there is a call to action being planned. these threads should speak to one another, the fact that both sides are strongly advocating opposite imperatives is very dangerous.

there is no structure that helps us understand in detail the larger implications of another GA's decisions- especiallly something this big; i'm not sure the concept of a general strike (especially one in 5 days from now) is something any of would be able to fully coordinate. honestly the break down of passed proposals even within our park is already a huge bottleneck, and there is obviously a huge issue relaying info within the park/between occupies/inside and outside of the park

its a nice thought that the website were making is simply in solidarity with an action passed across the country- but let's be real if/when we start supporting this action, OWS is complicit in the action- thats alright as long as we own up to it and remain accountable. i'm personally not comfortable with it

i tend to think we should be really careful about trying to pull this thing together in such a short amount of time- i am confident we can do it in the 5 days but i'm sure we could do it better in 15

we should certainly support.

but we should be careful about calling on things we can't deliver on.  regardless of what whoever says. a general strike is a hugely complicated idea.  let's focus on what we're good at OCCUPYING.  take some more space and build to a MASS movement where we can organize and call for a mass movement.  also nov 17 will be a day to make a dent in the economy that could sow some seeds for people understanding the implications of a "general" strike.
if you're interested in a general strike and want to organize at your work place or among your friends to make that happen, help in building worker councils.  hit me off list for details.

my two cents.

I just had a 2-hour conversation with the director of moveon here in Oakland. The so-called "organizer" of the strike is a hugely disgruntled former-employee who managed to get many people fired because of his belligerent actions.

Strikes are 1940's. These days, we need to have non-violent training and Restorative Justice sessions. Stop knee-jerk reacting, start thinking, and focus on the 1% (not the 99%, who you are "striking against").
