I would like to build this for you guys if possible since I've already been handling telecom stuff like the toll free help line and have a telecom/network donation fund to pay for it.

I agree with Micah that Twilio would probably be our best bet.

Here's what I propose:

1. Create a page on OccupyWallSt.org that allows people to add/remove their phone number to the SMS list.

2. Create a web page only members from the media committee can see that allows you to enter a text message, hit send, and the server will forward it to every phone number on the list.

I can have this set up in two days.

Thoughts?

Twilio.com is also a good option, allows advanced programming and is easy to use.

I have an account with grouptexting already, and it works well.

Also, its number is a LONG CODE, meaning no extra fees for people to send/receive messages from us

Aas Foucault once wrote, "Information is Power"; if our movement allows information to cluster and remain stagnant in the hands of few inside our camp (such as the media group or the facilitators working group) without flowing to others we run the risk of marginalizing and creating a power hierarchy that will soon start showing its detrimental effects.

We are doing a great job in making the information flow outwards to the world, and i believe we can do a better job at making that flow happen on the ground, at our camp! To that end, we could use a mass SMS online service where people register their phone #'s into a website platform and the media team can fire a torpedo with information to everyone on the ground.

Furthermore, this can be used to coordinate operations, marches, warn of police presence, and other important information. This is the service:
