This is great! I was hoping a popular education program like this would be put together. Thanks. =)
But I do have a question about something I'm in the process of pulling together for Thursday. I'm a member of a group called Organizing for Occupation (O4O: o4onyc.org
), a grassroots organization that works to actualize the human right to housing through direct action. One of the lead organizers of O4O, Karen Gargamelli, would like to come speak at Liberty Plaza on Thursday at 6pm about the housing crisis, O4O's work, and what we can do bring together and support our struggles. O4O members fighting through foreclosure and/or homelessness would come and speak as well.
One of the goals of this discussion will be to establish relationships between Occupy Wall Street and O4O folks in hopes of organizing a series of anti-foreclosure actions next week.
I know that 6pm on Thursday is the only time Karen can come this week. Is there any way that we could combine this with Thursday's 99% Open Forum? Maybe switch things around so that Thursday's topic is housing-related?
I think working with O4O would be beneficial and strategic on a number of levels (help us build relationships with community orgs, put our movement in deeper conversation with lived struggles of this city, help build momentum through strategic action, etc), and I rather not have two simultaneous events take away from each others' attendance.
